Theatre on The Big Screen

Today see’s the UK cinema release of Merrily We Roll Along, the hit Musical Theatre production which in November 2012 started life at the well respected Menier Chocolate factory before being snapped up by the West End and then on to Broadway. It was awarded the most 5 star reviews in West End History and although its live run is now over, audiences have the chance to see it again. This time at the local cinema.

Digital Theatre are a production company dedicated to capturing live theatre onscreen. Multi HD camera shots mean this is as close as you can get to actually being there. The production is slick and different camera angles give an ‘audience eye view’, focusing on the characters and areas of the stage where you would naturally want to place your attention. Theatre I've seen filmed before has made me feel like I've got the worst seat in the house, filmed in a one-shot from the back of a room and this couldn't be more different.

Merrily we Roll Along is the first in their ‘West End Series’ and will show for one night only. If you’re a lover of Musical Theatre this is a must see.  The cast is brilliant and the songs, clever, witty and beautifully performed.

At a time where purse strings are pulled and theatre isn’t always easily affordable, Digital Theatre provides a brilliant opportunity to feel like you’re in the front row without breaking the bank. On their website you can buy or rent downloads of hundred of plays, from New Writing to Shakespeare at the Globe so for those less in to counterpoint duets and jazz hands there is still plenty to see. For those, like me, for whom the idea of a life filled with song and dance is really quite appealing … go see this …
